“I sense Light as the giver of all presences, and material as spent Light. What is made by Light casts a shadow, and the shadow belongs to Light.”

-Louis Kahn

Salk Institute
The year is almost three-quarters over.  We are now having elections for next year’s officers, going thru the accreditation process, continuing to be involved in community activities and events, volunteering, educating and soon will be getting ready for the 2019 legislative session. These are all functions of the AIA that support our profession. AIA supports architecture.  That’s really what all of us want to do, right?  Practice architecture; and not just architecture, but good architecture.  So let’s all support AIA.

 ANNUAL MEETING
Tuesday, September 18, 2018 :: Noon

Our annual meeting and election will take place before the Lunch and Learn on Tuesday, September 18th, 2018.  Besides voting for our new board members, we will briefly be discussing accomplishments and budget for the year. Please plan on attending.

PLANNING PRESENTATION
Tuesday, November 13, 2018 :: Noon

Several members of the board met with Jeremy Floyd, Administrator / DesignWorks of the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Dept. and chair for ASLA, to continue the dialog between AIA Tallahassee and the Planning Dept. It was a very interesting and promising conversation.  We decided to start the joint venture off with a presentation by Jeremy on Urban Design as a Public Service and Community Outreach.  This presentation will be a lunch meeting on November 13th at noon, so mark your calendars. Lunch will be provided at no cost to the attendees. Look for an Evite coming your way soon.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY-UPDATE
There will not be an AIA Tallahassee and Habitat project build his year, but there are several opportunities to work on a Habitat house as individuals.  Please email LauraLee Diallo at ldiallo@dagarchitects.com if you want to know more about them. We will be working towards having an AIA Tallahassee build in the future.

COMPONENT ACCREDITATION

As you all probably know, AIA National started requiring components (chapters) to go thru an accreditation process several years ago.  We passed our first accreditation and this year we have to apply and pass it again. There are 7 categories that we have to submit data on. These are: Member Communications, Education, Advocacy, Public Outreach, Governance, Membership and Finance & Operations. The portal for submittals opened on September 15, 2018 and will remain opened until January 15th, 2019. You will be kept up on the process for the next three months via the newsletter. If you have any questions about accreditation do not hesitate to email me at eve.williamstwo@gmail.com.

MEMBERSHIP-DUES

AIA Tallahassee has not increased their dues for almost 30 years, therefore this year the dues will be increasing $10.00 for AIA members and $5.00 for Associate members. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at eve.williamstwo@gmail.com.
